Groans of separation

Groans of separation

How is it that everything that is, exists in the One Consciousness that is Happiness, Goodness, Beauty, Love, yet we, wandering in the dark, make only groans of separation?

One could say that – like an infant separated from its mother – we cry out in despair, full of fear for our survival. Like an infant, we do not know what has happened; our undeveloped reason does not grasp it. We long madly to be reunited with our mother, to be in a state of connection, security and happiness. In all our despair, we fail to remember that it was our act of rebellion that caused ‘mother to put us away in an empty cot for a while’, only for us to realise our mistake, gasp and return to harmony with her. After all, she is the wisest, she loves us the most, she only wants our good; she is our teacher who wants to raise her self-centred child into a beautiful human being, emanating goodness, peace and, above all, the love instilled by her.

Separated from the true Self, we feel existential pain because we have cut ourselves off from the One Consciousness. We are stuck in oblivion, wallowing in egocentricity like mud, making only groans of separation, because without connection we understand nothing. We even try to arrange ourselves in this mud, telling ourselves that it is not so bad after all. Filled with fear, we look outside for blame; we punish the outside for the situation in which we find ourselves. We think others are to blame, after all, not us; and if they are to blame, we can take advantage of them – after all, that is what ‘justice’ demands. We fall deeper and deeper into the mud of disharmony and evil.

And yet we are ONE! – limitless, magnificent and eternal. We are an emanation of the one Consciousness, God, the Tao, in which all that exists is contained. This one Consciousness cannot be expressed in any human language, for none have the right words, and our ability to comprehend is incapable of grasping this Magnificence.

Every human being is the same as us. They are our brothers and sisters sharing the same fate, the same experience; but we only begin to truly understand this when the Light of Eternity begins to break through into our consciousness.

Before that happens, we go mindlessly round and round in circles – for eons of time – until we finally realise that this all leads to nothing, that it is impossible to get anything out of it. We stand on the brink of existential pain, which finally forces us to say: ‘Stop, I give up! Someone help me, because I can’t do anything any more! There must be another way out of this situation!’

With this surrender comes the opportunity for the rays of the Gnosis to touch our heart, and with this touch the journey back – from the land of forgetfulness to Fullness – can begin. However, we must make this journey ourselves, not seeking help from outside, but concentrating on our own inner self. Discovering that Consciousness which is to be found in the innermost space of our inner being.

It does not cease to wait for our return.
